Back in February, we reported that ZTE was reportedly preparing its first ever Android Wear powered smartwatch called the ZTE Quartz. At the time, we didn't know much information apart from the fact that the upcoming watch will run Android Wear 2.0 and will feature 3G UMTS cellular connectivity. Now, thanks to a treasure trove of images shared by Android Police, we may now have our very first look at the Chinese OEM's first Android Wear hardware.
As you can see in the images below, the watch appears to have a metal design with notches marked on its bezel, a small side button, rubber straps, and a four-pin charging dock.
Bearing the model number ZW10, the watch in question is currently running on Android Wear 2.0 based on Android 7.1.1, as you can confirm from looking at the image below.
According to Android Police, the ZTE Quartz doesn't have NFC, meaning you won't be able to use Android Pay or any other mobile payment service that requires NFC connectivity. The watch is also sans a heart rate monitor, LTE connectivity, and single side button which means the watch doesn't have a rotating crown for scrolling, so clearly the ZTE Quartz isn't going to compete with more powerful smartwatches such as the LG Watch Sport or Huawei Watch 2.
Unfortunately, there is no word on pricing or availability of the ZTE Quartz yet, but given the limited information we have now and prior knowledge of ZTE's hardware pricing, we're betting that this smartwatch won't break the bank. We'll have to keep an eye out for when ZTE officially unveils the product, however, to see if this information is indeed accurate.
