Moto Z2, Moto Z3, Moto X4, and Moto G6 series will get Android Pie updates

It's that time of the year where Android device makers announce the time frames for the roll-out of the newest Android version. Android 9 Pie was released on August 6 for the Google Pixel/XL and the Google Pixel 2/XL. The development community already has a head-start when it comes to porting AOSP Android Pie for a few Xiaomi phones, but official updates for most phones will, as expected, be much slower. For example, the Essential Phone has received a stable Android Pie update, while other phones in the Android Pie beta program (such as the OnePlus 6, Nokia 7 Plus, and the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S) are still on beta or leaked alpha builds.

In terms of the Android Pie update roll-out, HTC has confirmed that it will roll out the newest Android update to its major smartphones. Now, Lenovo-owned Motorola has joined HTC in officially revealing which of the company's phones will receive Android 9.0 Pie updates.

Motorola states that Android Pie updates will roll-out to the following smartphones "starting this fall":

The list of Motorola smartphones due to receive Android 9.0 Pie includes this year's budget and lower mid-range Moto G6 series. The entry-level Moto E5 series is notably absent from this list. Last year's Moto Z2 Force, Moto Z2 Play and the Moto X4 will also receive Android Pie, alongside the mid-range Moto Z3 Play and Motorola's current flagship, the Moto Z3.

Motorola notes that Android Pie brings a new gesture navigation system, simplified volume controls, an easier way to manage notifications, redesigned Quick Settings, improved Do Not Disturb mode, and more features. The company advises users to keep checking the Motorola upgrade site for more details on software updates, including country and carrier-specific details.
