Installing Marshmallow/CM13 ROM from a newbie

Hi there.

Have an Asus ZenPad S 8.0 for 6 months now and it has been stuck to Android 5.0 ever since. Asus UK have been dodging my tweets and emails inquiring about Lollipop or a Marshmallow update and i'm basically fed up now.

I happen to have a Mac and limited to no experience when it comes to ROM's and zero experience to rooting a device.

I'd like to ask for help on how to easily install Marshmallow or CM13 on my tablet so i can benefit from the newest OS Android has to offer and not waiting for Asus for forever.

Many thanks.

SM-G900M Stuck in bootloop

My SM-G900M is stuck in a boot loop.

When this happened, I Tried to do a factory reset plus cleaning cache in recovery. However this didnot fix my problem so I decided to reflash using odin, so i download the official rom and installed it but again same issue happened. After so much research and headache I installed CWM and did a kalvic, factory reset + format system a few times then I reflashed it afterwards. This seemed to have made the boot loop even worse since I doesn't pass through samsung galaxy s5 powered by android logo. That where the boot loop happens.

So overall I have tried
Reflashing ROM about 5 or 6 times using odin
Flashing a custom recovery multiple times
Factory reset
Clean cache + kalvic
FORMAT system and boot
Pulling the battery out for about a trillion times
Flashing ROM + PIT FILE + BOOTLOADER with odin
Flashing only the PIT File, Only the BOOTLOADER, Both Together
Flashing a custom kernel

Current result:
An Expensive Brick :crying:
Thanks

Zooper Widget External SD Card Indicator

So I can't figure out what's the correct path to my external sd card so that it can show up on Zooper Widget. I guess this is a MM thing so I'm wondering if anyone's figured out how to fix this or if you know any way I can get a widget to show the current space avaiable on my external sd card. On JB this was a nice thing to have. Zooper and HD Widgets both were able to show the status of my internal and external storage. Now I'm stuck with only being able to see my internal storage.

Any news on a fix or if anyone is currently working on this? Thanks!

I've tried tasker yet failed to even set up a profile as I couldn't hit the + button with the limited scrolling and functionality that accompanies the remote control with the stick.

Galaxy s6 soft keys flashing

Hi guys,

My girlfriend has a galaxy s6 running marshmallow. The soft keys are constantly flashing/blinking whenever the screen is turned on. This also causes the device to lag, draining the battery.

I've tried factory resetting the device, and running it in safe mode suggesting it's not software related.

I also installed the the app "Galaxy button lights" that allows the control of the lights, this does stop them flashing, but the device still seems to be running slowly.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

Dual/Multi Boot Possible on Verizon Note 4

I have looked around and haven't seen anyone mention this so I thought I would post about it since I've been using it and thought it was cool. I hope others find this useful.
The thread I'm talking about: http://ift.tt/1NC2ksw

The original thread quoted by @aukhan: http://ift.tt/1pM6miy

All credit goes to the original developers for this tool.
Thanks to @aukhan, @rlorange, @chenxialong, and other contributors.

Download the first .apk (Dual Boot Patcher). That is the only app that you should need to complete the process. A video guide is posted by @aukhan here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_i3...E&spfreload=10
That is the best walkthrough I've seen.

Basically you patch all of the .zip files that you would have flashed normally and then you flash them to a new ROM slot. If there are more questions that the video doesn't answer I'll be happy to answer them or post a better walkthrough if needed.

It should be noted that to switch back and forth you'll need to install the Dual Boot Patcher apk on both ROMs. This does not affect TWRP Recovery.

I have run this with JasmineROM as the primary and CM13 as the secondary as well as CM13 as primary and JasmineROM as Secondary. I currently have this set-up to try different ROMs without needing to completely wipe my phone and deal with backups/restores. I also use it to use CM13 as my primary while having stock options (S-Pen, Car BT, and other Samsung stuff) available in a quick reboot.

As always, do a nandroid backup.

NOTE:
If you are someone who does not like or just doesn't choose to have Xposed installed, then this method will not work.

Lets go,
1.) Install Xposed Framework
2.) Open Xposed then download and install Wanap Xposed module
3.) Activate the module and reboot.
4.) Open Wanam and go to security hacks and check the box for SDcard RW permission, then reboot.

There may be other ways of going about the sd write/mount fix, but this method worked for me.

Band Setup Problem South America (select band GSM and UMTS menu)

Good day

I am currently in Venezuela and I just received a Moto X pure literally just get it out of the box. When I plug the SIM on the device recognized it I could receive SMS and Calls but no data, no 3G no H+, no 4g. I double checked the APN and nothing. So I look some Info and found this app from the store called "Network" which i think its just a shortcut to the *#*#numbers#*#* anyway below there was an option "lte/gsm/cdma auto (prl)" i change this to other options to try to force LTE but nothing worked. So going desperated press the three dots menu on top and click "select radio band" and by mistake selected USA Band. Inmediatly lost signal and now the decvice doesnt recognize the sim card anymore. I tried to go back to this menu (select radio band) but the only options i see are "USA Band Cellular and PCS" none of this working for me. I ll really appreciate any help you could bring me cause i dont have a phone to replace this one. I also ask the moderator to move this post if this is not the right place for it, I ve been seaching for help but there is just too much information concerning radios, modem, and bands that i can really understand.

P-607, 5.11 Rooted Lock Screen Pin Issues

Here's the issue, that I've resolved, but I'm looking for a reason why this happened.

Have a Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) running Android 5.11, rooted and running xposed.

Arrived home a few days ago and my PIN is no longer recognized to unlock the device. I been using the same pin for months and nothing of any significance had changed on the device. A couple of days earlier I had upgraded busybox and a certificate I use for an email account had expired, but I've restarted the device and used the lock screen pin multiple times after both events. Very strange that the device just stopped recognizing the pin as the correct one.

Anyway I was, fortunately, able to find a way to get into the device and authorize adb connections and took care of the issue (without having to reflash anything).

Anyone have any ideas why the device would just stop allowing the pin to unlock the device?

[MOD][PORT][6.0+] Xperia X Sound Processing! | Ported Latest audio libs!

Hey guys! Whats'up!

Since i ported some time ago Z5 sound processing and it worked, now with the testing of my big friend @PDesire i also ported some important Xperia X Sound libs and files that will really improve your sound!!! (Tested by soundmodders!) ;)

PORTED FEATURES

• Xperia X Sound Enhancement libs:

Description:

These libs are one of the component of the heart of the sony Sound Enhancement, they are the files that manage the audio output when some audio effects are enabled, and i ported them for you! including S-Force, XLOUD, Clear Phase, Clear Stereo, Clearaudio+, but unlickily i can't port libsonydseehxwrapper.so becpuse it causes stuck at starting apps i don't know why, but at least i ported the dsx_param_file.bin so you still have something new to play with ;) There is also a new unknown effect called ZNR That i ported successfully and it's here.

Tested on: Z2-Z5

Advantages: Very better sound effects including always more bass, Trebble and music clarity.

• Xperia X Qualcomm HW Audio Processing:

Description:

Obviously this is a port of some S820 Files wich uses the latest config for Hexagon-DSP so it sound really better

Qualcomm HW effects are configured parameters of audio module/feature code running on Qualcomm® Hexagon™ DSP Core contained in Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ processors. The benefit is enhanced precision, sample rate, concurrency, and reduced power consumption while retaining standard Android APIs. So, these files are the managers of the Audio Reverberium, Virtualizer, Voice Processing and general sound processing. Like Always Sony put his work on these files to make them better and better. I used these files Too in my XTREMEMusic Sound MOD and now i wil share them for you! ;)

Tested on:Z2-Z5

Advantages: Really Hearable difference in sound processing: Really better sound Virtualizatrion, Incredible Clearer and Stronger Bass and really clearer Vocalist voice.

- • Xperia X Soundfx System folder!

Also this time guys there is a new very exclusive feature!

Description:

This time guys i ported the entire system/lib/soundfx folder from Xperia X to other Xperias!! But the question is what is the soundfx folder? Well in this folder android stores all the engines core libs wich are a must to have a working audio on your device, for example here you can find the visualizer libs, the sound pre-profcessing and processing libs, sound reverb libs, bass boost bundle etc. So most of the android sound efecct processing is here, and you have now the same sound effects as Xperia X!!! Not bad right? ;)

Tested Devices: Z2-Z5

Advantages: Almost the same output sound as Xperia X ( in terms of bass, trebble and effects )

• Xperia X Audio libs!:

This is a very very exclusive thing too!

Description:

I ported the audioroute and audioutils libs from Xperia X To all others!! what does these libs do? they are two components of android's core sound, so if your device hasn't such libs, you can't hear nothing XD as they are some core libs, you can say now that you have also part of Xperia X core sound! So now the X sound processing is deeply integrated in your xperia! these libs have a differnt name and you can't find them in stock xperia X system, becosue i ported them complitaly by myself so the name is differnt. At least logcats shows that it's working so... enjoy :)

Tested Devices: Z2-Z5

Advantages: Complete the implementation of xperia X sound processing and deeply integrates it in your device!

HOW TO INSTALL

- Just flash the all in one tested working zip ,)

DOWNLOAD

For the full Xperia X sound pack: http://goo.gl/FrO9lM

CREDITS

- Me for the porting ;)
- @PDesire For testing and help as usual ;)

FEEL FREE TO ADD THESE FILES IN YOUR ROM! JUST GIVE ME THE PROPER CREDITS!

[GUIDE] Systemless Root of your Nook Tab S2 710

With Barnes & Noble now selling the Galaxy Tab S2 710 (32gb) for $299 in the U.S. (and an extra 10% off if you're a B&N member), I picked one up yesterday and immediately came here to research rooting and set up. What I found were a lot of guides written a while ago, and a lot of confusing (at least to me) information. So I thought I would consolidate, in one place, in a new thread, what I eventually did, on the assumption that there might be a lot of new Tab S2 owners in the coming weeks. Obviously, you undertake these steps at your own risk, and YMMV. Also, hopefully equally obviously, none of the fantastic tools here are original with me -- credit goes to all those, like chainfire, ashyrx, wanam, engine95 and many more who have built and/or developed them.

1. If your Tab comes with anything but 5.1.1 XXU2BPB1, feel free to take the OTA update. In the US, it's the most current build as of 4.30.16 and you will still be able to root.
2. If you don't already have it, download Odin 3.10.7. You can find it here: http://ift.tt/11Z9Nfp
When you run Odin in Windows, probably better to run it in administrator mode (right click on the icon), although I haven't always found that to be necessary.
3. Flash a Custom Recovery using the PDA tab of Odin. Put your Tab into Download mode by turning it off, then pressing and holding the Home, Power and Volume Down buttons all at the same time. When the download screen comes up, press the Volume Up button to continue. Now you're ready to attach your Tab to your PC. Load TWRP 3.0.2-1 from Ashyx's thread here: http://ift.tt/1QHXeWL into Odin. Follow his instructions carefully -- once the custom recovery flashes, you have to manually reboot into the new recovery (so untick the auto-reboot option in Odin) or else your new custom recovery gets overwritten and you go back to your stock recovery.
4. Backup your Stock Rom -- While you're still in TWRP (or if you've already rebooted, go back to it), it would make sense to do a full backup of your stock ROM. That way you can restore your Tab to its original state if you ever need or want to.
5. Root -- Here's where I found the most confusion on these forums. You can do a systemless root -- i.e., keeping a stock, SE Enforcing, kernel (as opposed to flashing a permissive kernel and always getting the red SE Noneforcing Kernel message on a reboot and/or needing to use CF-Auto-Root). All you need to do is install Super SU 2.71 (BETA). Get the zip from here: http://ift.tt/1H95YEo and put it on your Tab. Then flash using the "Install" choice within your TWRP recovery. Reboot -- and when TWRP asks you whether you want to install SuperSU because you're not rooted -- you have to say "NO" (OK, that's counterintuitive, but chainfire's instructions are clear).
5. Debloat -- That's beyond this thread's scope, but I recommend Titanium Backup from the Play Store. If you want to get rid of the "Nook" logo on reboot, flash the zip file from post #2 of Engine95's thread (using TWRP) found here: http://ift.tt/1QHXeWP
6. SD Card Fix -- if you find your third party apps can't write to your SD Card, the attachment below describes how to fix it. If this type of editing scares you (make a backup first!), the Play Store app SD Card Fix supposedly still works with Lollipop and you can try that.
7. Netflix Fix -- for some reason, Netflix doesn't like root on the Nook Tab. The fix for this is as simple as renaming the file "system/lib/liboemcrypto.so" (using a root explorer of your choice) as "system/lib/liboemcrypto.so.bak"
8. Xposed -- I happen to like Xposed and don't find it messes up anything, while giving you a ton of customization options. Installation is a two-step process. First, find the correct version of wanam's Xposed zip from here: http://ift.tt/1IZsDRS, and flash it using TWRP. For Lollipop on the S2, I used his SDK 22-arm version (SDK 23 is for Marshmallow). Don't worry if the reboot takes a long time -- that's normal. Then, once rebooted, simply install wanam's Xposed apk (XposedInstaller_3.0_Alpha4) that's available in the same thread.

That's it. I hope this saves some of you a lot of my trial and error, and, if it does, please press the "thanks" button.

ADB not working - returns "unauthorized"

As title says, I cannot use adb: "adb devices" returns "UNAUTHORIZED" if I launch command with phone plugged in and in android environment.
If I try in bootloader mode, download mode or recovery mode it returns "list of attached device" like it is empty list and cant see phone.
Phone is M9 ViperOneM9 4.3.0 firmware 3.35.401.12 recovery TWRP 3.0.0.0.
I am using a Win 10 PC where ADB command is perfectly working with my other M9 (ViperOneM9 4.2.1 same firmware as above, TRWP 2.8.7.1).
I read various posts and the problem seems to be the phone not showing the prompt to accept RSA key.
Yes, I am with USB debug ON and install from unknow sources ON (this last is useless but I say the same).
I think to have tried most of everything people suggest in different posts:
- updated and reinstalled android sdk
- deleted adbkey and adbkey.pub in my %user%/.android folder (then it recreates files but still no prompt on phone)
- tried different versions of HTC drivers on PC
- tried different versions of adb (1.0.31, 1.0.32 and also a pre 1.0.30 I dont remember exactly which one)
- tried installing Minimal ADB and Fastboot [4-27-16] http://ift.tt/1hRT13V
- wiped everything from TWRP recovery under "advanced" button and reinstalled rom with wipe during aroma installer
- looking in the phone in "system/data/misc/adb" for adb keys files but my folder is empty (checked on my other fully working M9 and that folder is empty too)
- toggled USB debugging on/off rebooting phone and PC

I also tried setting up a virtual machine with Windows 7 but I am not able to install drivers for the phone (yellow triangle in device manager).
Set up a virtual machine with Debian 8.4.0, installed android-tools-sdk, updated last version and "adb devices" here return OFFLINE
What can i do? It is like 7 hour I am trying but nothing is working.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks everyone

Adoptive Storage issue?

So what's the point of additive storage if it's not going to actually use the SD card? I've been working with a lot of video lately and it just came to a crawl and I got 3 notifications about being out of storage. I've deleted a few things and it's running fine now but this is kind of pointless. Isn't the idea behind approve storage so that it adds the SD card space to the partition for user data?

Weird issue this morning

Hey peeps had a really strange issue this morning ???? I went out last night on the town and came home rather intoxicated. Went to bed and forgot to put my phone on charge. At 6am I woke up phone was on 13% put my phone on charge and the screen wasn't responding.

So I forced shutdown and when it started up I couldn't unlock my phone because my keyboard wasn't appearing.

Forced shutdown again put on charge again and went back to sleep.

When I woke up an hour later late for work I took my phone and unlocked it and all my home was messed up. All folders are left most apps are spread out over 5 pages Google account had logged out. My messages didn't show my Google picture showed my 1st initial.

I have the latest marshmallow and I'm wondering if anyone else knows why this may have happened?

Thank you

Soon gonna cry

Hi I've been searching for a while now but I can't find a topic on this yet.
Recently it rooted my phone but now when I try turning it on it gets stuck at the loading screen, ok. Now then I managed to get to the boot loader from here I go to the recovery option, now here is the problem when I select the recovery option the phone will either go back to the boot loader or will not turn back on. Also in this state my PC cannot see my phone as a device. PS I cant even get to the error screen most people seem to get when they go to the recovery option.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Writing shell scripts

I wrote a shell script that I saved in the root directory of the sdcard, however, file permissions were 660 and I could not find a way to make it executable. 'chmod +x' did not work, nor could SolidExplorer change permissions. Googling suggested that if I copied it to e.g. /data I could then change permissions, file permissions were indeed 760 after copying but did not stick when copying the file back to the sdcard and reverted to 660.

I can execute the shell script on the sdcard running it as 'sh script' but I'd rather have it executable as is.

Is this not possible?

Thanks.

GWD Watch face works in preview but gives black screen on watch, help!

I've put together a watch face that uses an animation control with 46 frames (each is 300x300 pixels in size), which I've then spreadout over the whole day (so each frame is displayed for 31 or 32 mins). I've then put on the usual watch hands and digital clock to complete it.

It looks fine when I preview in GWD and I can successfully build it and install it to my Gear S2. However, when I try and select the new face on my watch I see the preview picture followed by a black screen. After being unresponsive for a short period of time it switches to the preview picture of one of the built in faces and remains unresponsive. A quick reboot gets the watch running again, but it still doesn't let me use my new watch face. :(

Anyone seen this sort of problem before or got any suggestions on ways to get it running? After spending a reaosnable amount of time manually adjusting the timings for 46 frames of animation I'd really like to see this working.

Thanks,

John.

I tried installing a custom recovery via ODIN and put it on an external sd card. tried installing from both.

Nothing works, it reboots and when I go back to recovery it's stock again.

Anker astro a7 Powerbank 26800 lots of pictures

Anker astro El 26800 mha review

Well, my friends we have surely come across a beast of a charger! It is big! It is heavy! It is all you need and then some! Perhaps one could argue that it may not be the best for everyday use, but we must realize that we no longer live in a world in which the majority of people only have one device, and even if you are only in possession of one device yourself, more than likely your friends and or family will be in need, and you can be the awesome person that is always there to lend an extra charging port!

It is the perfect device for traveling! It has three USB ports, so if you ever find yourself needing to get a few devices charged in a short period of time, this device is perfect for you! Whether you are using the extra ports for yourself or your family, you will be amazed at how quickly the charge takes place, and how no problems or issues arise when using more than one, or even all of the USB ports at the same time. It works flawlessly!

The tests I have done are as follows. I have been using only this charger for both my smart phone, my brother's smart phone, and my tablet, and I will take note of how long the charges take individually and together, and how long the charges last within the individual devices. As far as heat is concerned, the device put out no more heat than one would generally expect from a standard one USB port charging device. After using the device to charge the two smart phones and the tablet, starting at zero in terms of battery amount in the individual units, and removing them once they were completely charged, it was discovered that there was no increase in temperature. The same amount of heat was produced with one device charging as it were with three devices. Not only was the heat barely noticeable, the device did not seem to have even the slightest bit of trouble with one device, or under the greater stress of charging three devices at once, the heat put off by the device always remained at a constant minimal temperature. Once finished with all of the tests, the data will be posted accordingly.

Another brilliant aspect of this device is the ability to use it to charge your devices without the need of a wall socket. The device stores a charge while plugged into the wall, but can be removed and is still able to do a stellar job charging devices. I was able to use the device without it being plugged in for a few hours over three complete days, and during the three days I was able to charge my phone three times and my tablet twice…. All without the device being plugged into the socket! This ability comes in way handier than people would assume. Whether you are a person constantly on the go, and have no time to sit around near a socket, or whether you are simply a person that tends to misplace cords frequently, you will find the ability to charge your devices without sitting near a socket to be an absolute godsend!

I could not recommend it more! An absolutely stellar device!

LG G3 stuck on firmware update screen

Hi
I have LG G3 D855 on android 4.4.2 and tried to update it to android 6 but I got a message saying "the device is not registered yet" so I tried to update manually by LGup but it always stuck on 6% and an error message appears I dont remember it but I think it was saying that there is a problem in the partition: cust
Then I tried with LG flash tool 2014 and it stuck on 2% and says "remove the battery and try again" but to no avail
Then tried to unbrick/unroot it by LG flash tool_v1.8 using tot firmware and it stuck on 6% again and shows an error message saying " partition change Fa..." (it's cut off, but I'm assuming that last word is 'fail')

So help me please because I can't use my phone anymore :crying:

I have to manual hang up one or the other to fix the problem but it is quite frustrating to do this when the phone is basically struggling to cope with 2 active calls and is lagging.
Ant advice? Thanks.

April 2016 software update one plus: stuck at lock screen

Device: OnePlus One Sandstone Black 64 GB
This phone only has factory installed software and has been updated after automatically receiving software update prompts on the phone.

On 28th April, 2016 a software update popped up on my OPO. I installed it and started using it. My 4G/LTE internet from T--mobile was NOT working, so I thought of a reboot. After a reboot, I'm not able to get past the phone LOCK. When I swipe the screen to unlock my phone, the screen dims and the phone is useless. What are the options to fix this? I've imp data inside the phone.

Is there a way to go back to the state before the update. I've found lot of stuff on the internet that has overwhelming info. I'm afraid to follow most of them because of the fear of losing data.

Hey guyz, I need help

Hey, today I flashed my HTC desire 601 with a new custom rom (which didn't have google playstore) and it had titanium backup, so I used it to (accidentally) uninstall settings.apk from the system>apps :D So now I have a situation, where I can't install any new apps, cause installation from unknown sources is disabled and I can't access settings to disable it and plus I can't boot into recovery to flash any new roms, cause fastboot in settings>power is enabled. So technically I have my phone bricked, something like a bootloop, but the only difference is that the phone turns on and every installed app works fine.

Is there any way out??

Thanks in advance

Rooted and screwed....

Bought an edge S7, rooted like I have many of my Samsung devices. (12 of them since 2012).and yes I know the risks. Dropped my phone on table corner and cracked the screen, unusable. So I flashed back to stock and drove to Samsung service centre for a lcd replacement. $336 and a day later I pickup the phone. First thing I notice is a high pitch warning..... Says device is overheating, can't charge, bla, bla bla. So I reboot into recovery and it says device is 90c. Unrealistic temperature, actually impossible. I have flashed many Roms and made lots of androids and it never goes past 42c. I write Samsung repair shop complaining that the device is overheating falsely and I want to bring it back. His response:

Your phone is rooted, it is not performance as a standard function. Only we can replace the mainboard that to solve the issue

Best regards,

So how is this my fault? My edge was working perfectly before I brought it in and now it's my fault it's falsely overheating? Any ideas or advice? Obviously I refuse to pay for something the screwed up. I love Samsung but this is infuriating.

"Enable OEM Unlock" in developer options.

What does this actually do to tell the bootloader that it is ok to unlock.
Write a 1 byte file to the system partition?
Write one byte of the bootloader?

Searching google just gave "How to Enable OEM Unlock to unlock your bootloader" articles nothing on how it actually works.

Benefits - Downsides to Rooting

Hello everyone

I've always jailbroken my iPhones in the past, since it was such a constrained environment.

Since last year I've been rooting my Android Phones. Currently my new Note 5 is not rooted, since I'm questioning if I should root.

I've seen other threads that superficially deal with the PROS/CONS of rooting. I want to hear yours.

My PROS for rooting:
  • Greenifying apps for battery saving (though I'm currently not sure how much battery life is really saved)
  • Installing Xposed - I always use "no high volume warning", and "background youtube videos"
  • Use Amplify for battery saving
  • Use of F.lux or CF.lumen (for removing blue light at night)
  • Install apps like Youtube downloader by Arter97

My current CONS of rooting:
  • Losing the phone's warranty
  • The energy I spend being obsessed with battery performance
  • The bugs I encounter from time to time with rooted devices

Please share your PROS/CONS.
Are you someone who used to root phones? Do you currently do so? Why?

Thanks! :good:

[GUIDE]Triple Booting Remix OS, Linux and Chrome OS

The trick is to install Chrome OS first, shrink the Chrome OS main partition, and install Linux and Remix in their own partitions.
  • Download Chrome OS from here and install it as directed. It will destroy everything else on the disk, and make a large partition for data storage, and another 11 partitions for whoknows what.
  • Boot Linux with a live USB stick or CD. Shrink the first, large partition using parted. I started out with a 450GB partition that I shrunk to 180. Make 5 new partitions using fdisk or whatever you like for partitioning. I made a 250 MB partition for Linux boot, a 120GB partition for Linux /, a 120GB partition for Linux /home, an 8GB partition for Linux swap, and a 30GB partition for Remix. Use your own judgment.
  • Install Linux in the Linux partitions. I use Gentoo, but you can use whatever you like.
  • Boot up linux.
  • Install Remix OS in the last partition:
    • Download the zip file from this thread. Unzip the file; it contains an installer for Windoze(<somethingorother>.exe), and an .iso file. Make a temporary directory
      Code:

      mkdir /mnt/tmp
and mount the iso in it:
      Code:

      mount -o loop <name_of_iso>.iso /mnt/tmp
    • Format the Remix partition, mount it, and copy the files in the iso to the Remix partition (in my case it is /dev/sda17):
      Code:

      mkfs.ext4 /dev/sda17
      mkdir /mnt/remix
      mount -t auto /dev/sda17 /mnt/remix
      cd /mnt/tmp
find . -xdev -depth -print | cpio -puvdm /mnt/remix

    • Make a grub menu entry for Remix OS in /etc/grub.d/40_custom:
      Code:

      #!/bin/sh
      exec tail -n +3 $0
      # This file provides an easy way to add custom menu entries.  Simply type the
      # menu entries you want to add after this comment.  Be careful not to change
      # the 'exec tail' line above.
      menuentry "REMIXOS Resident Mode" --class android-x86 {
          insmod part_gpt
          search --file --no-floppy --set=root /system.img
          set root=(hd0,17)
          linux /kernel initrd=/initrd.img quiet root=/dev/ram0 androidboot.hardware=remix_x86
          androidboot.selinux=permissive quiet SRC= DATA=/ CREATE_DATA_IMG=0
      ## VGA=791
          video=uvesa DPI=96 UVESA_MODE=1280x800
          initrd /initrd.img
          }

You may need a different VGA= or MODE= depending on your monitor.
    • Make a data directory. For some reason it doesn't get created automatically:
      Code:

      mkdir /mnt/remix/data
    • Assuming grub is installed, make the grub menu and finish up.
      Code:

      mount /boot
      grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
      umount /boot
      umount /mnt/tmp
      umount /mnt/remix
      rmdir /mnt/remix

  • When you reboot, you will see two entries for Chrome OS, generally listed as "Unknown Linux Distribution". Either one will work to boot Chrome.
  • Follow the directions in the Remix thread listed above on how to enable the Google Play store on Remix.

Took me a lot of trial and error. Hopefully it will be easier for you.

Help with GearWatchDesigner

Hello,
I have been playing with the beta of Samsung's GearWatchDesigner software. I have created a working watch face and have it running on my Gear S2. What I am trying to do is, the watch face I am using has a box on it to display the day, but I'm not sure how to set that up in the project.
I used png files for the hands and background. I also have a png file that has the day numbers from 1 to 31 in a vertical set up. Does it maybe have to be in a circle? And how would it be integrated into the project to change the number every day? I saw that you can set up an additional "hand" that syncs with the day but it also has rotation settings and a vertical layout shouldn't rotate, that's why I'm wondering if I need to find a circular layout for the numbers.
Thanks for any help in advance.

[Q] How to force apps to remember ringtone/notification preferences between ROM flash

Hey folks, I'm a frequent flasher.
I keep all my favorite notification and ringtones on my external SD card.
One thing that has always bugged me, is that my apps never remember my ringtone/notification preferences between ROM flashes.

So like if I do a clean flash of a new AOSP ROM, then restore all my apps (with app data) from Titanium Backup, then go into say.. Chomp SMS to check my ringtones, the app will remember that I had a custom ringtone.
But it won't remember how to find it.
I always have to reset the ringtone preferences.

I've always assumed I'm out of luck, but you know what... I've never asked to see if anyone knows of a good method to force various apps to remember that my ringtones/etc. are on /ext-sdcard/ringtones (or whichever path it may be).

Anyone have a neat way to do this?

Lenovo Tab a10-30 bricked or fixable?

Hello everyone,

I will share my experience with you, and I hope for a solution!

A few days ago I rooted my Lenovo tab 2 A10-30 successfully using Kingroot. Then, I tried to change Kinguser with SuperSU, which I also successfully did. However, I noticed that although the main root app was SuperSU, Kingroot was still on my phone, so I deleted it using a bloatware removal app and restarted the tablet. Now it won't turn on. It gets stuck at the Lenovo loading screen, and that's about it. When I press the power button + volume down button, it gets me to a Chinese menu that is not the recovery mode (there is no MMC, just options about voloume, colors, mic test etc). If I press the volume up+ volume down + power button, it just brightens the screen and shows nothing.

I tried flashing the stock ROM using the Smart Phone Flash Tool, but the PC does not recognize fully the tablet (it just prompts me to install the Lenovo USB drivers, and I cannot access the tablet's internal storage). Moreover, the Lenovo windows applications do not recognize the tablet when I connect it to the PC.

I really do hope that there is a way I can fix it.. Thank you all in advance.

Bypass Activation/Setup screen.

Hi Community!

I was wondering if there was a way to skip the initial activation screen / setup wizard. Ive been looking around to see if there was something that can be done with adb but it seems in order to talk to the device (at least on my mac), the device has to have developer options turned on and MTP set in order for adb to talk to the Samsung S7.
Really what Im looking for is something in which I can plug in a phone or phones in and run and have them get past the activation screen and straight to home screen.

Anybody know of a way to do this?

Or will just flashing wanam's version work?

I'm hoping I don't have to wipe/factory reset. If I do have to do this then will I lose my root?

best solution to expand memory on 16gb model?

hi,
I'm thinking about buying a note 3 pro and the 16gb / 2gb version is really cheap right now. I think I won't have problems having 2gb ram instead of 3gb, I rarely multitask and most of the time I close programs which I don't use. but I don't know about the 16gb internal space ... seems really little. is there some way to merge internal + sd without android 6.0? or some other way?

A suggestion/request (i9505)

I would like to ask if there is a S7 rom/port for S4 i9505. If there is then please give me the link to it, if not then if any developers see this I would love if you could make one especially if it's S7 edge rom. I know there is a S7 edge marshmallow rom for S4 i9506 but it won't work on i9505 and also I know that there is something similar like the Albe95 Lollirom and Note 5 port but they are Touchwiz Android 5.x.x, and I am looking for Touchwiz 6.x.x.

Thanks :)

How to Root Android One Devices On Android 6.0

Black Brain.

How to Root Android One Devices On Android 6.0

All the Android One users who have updated their phone to Android v6.0 i.e. updated to Marshmallow might have lost the root access. Now you will need to root your device again to do system modifications. Android One users will need to flash the Zeus kernel and Super SU.zip via TWRP. So here's a step by step guide to root Android One devices which are updated to Android 6.0.
Required Files

  1. Zeus Kernel – Download
  2. SuperSU.zip – Download
List of Android One devices Supported by Zeus Kernel

  1. Micromax Canvas A1
  2. Karbonn Sparkle V
  3. Spice Dream UNO
  4. MyPhone Uno
  5. Symphony Roar A50
  6. Cherry Mobile One
  7. Nexian Journey One
  8. Mito Impact
  9. Evercross One X
Prepare Your Device

  1. Custom Recovery like TWRP should be installed on your device.
  2. Your device must be fully charged or at least have 80% battery charge on it, as the process drains-out battery. If you don't have enough charge then it could cause the device to shut down unexpectedly and break the rooting process, which could permanently damage the device.
  3. Take a backup of all your Important Data and Settings to prevent unexpected loss, as this process might wipe out all your data.
I am not responsible if your device is damaged. Root your device at your own risk. Rooting your device will VOID the warranty of device.

Steps To Root Android One

  1. Copy the downloaded Zeus Kernel and SuperSU.zip to your device internal storage or external storage.
  2. Now reboot your device in Recovery. To reboot your device to recovery, Power off your device, and then press and hold volume down and power keys together. Then choose recovery option when prompted.
  3. Take a nandroid backup of System, Data, Boot, Recovery & EFS partitions. Wait until the backup process completes. This may take some time.
  4. Now hit the "Install" option and browse the Zeus Kernel file and select it.
  5. Just swipe for the installing the kernel.
  6. After installing the kernel, now again select "Install" and this time browse the SuperSU.zip and flash it.
  7. Reboot your device.
That's it, now you have rooted your Android One devices which are updated to Android 6.0.
